New Member Educator
Our seventh Exec Spotlight is Marley McAlister! She is a rising senior Pi Phi who is currently acting as our New Member Educator, so for PC'19... she is your new BFF ;) She is in her 3rd semester of Nursing school and is putting so much work into this next pledge class!
I asked Marley series of questions about her role on the exec and why she wanted to become involved and these are her answers!
What was your first role in Pi Phi?
My first role in pi phi was ceremonies committee and thats when i got to see all the “behind the scenes” things that went on for pi phi and that’s when i became interested in exec!
Why did you want to be on Exec?
A position on exec interested me the most because I wanted to give back to the chapter that had done so much for me. I met a tons of lifelong friends and the best roommate through pi phi.
Detail your exec role:
My position as new member educator entails the transition phase for the new members to become initiated members of pi beta phi. I get the opportunity to help guide my new members in their first few months as college and of Pi Beta Phi. My job is to support my new members, make them feel comfortable through this new phase in their life and provide a conduit to build strong, lasting friendships.
Favorite memory so far of your experience?
I think my favorite memories by far has been staying up countless nights trying to prepare for bid day and for all of my new members.
Has this experience been helpful for you in anyway?
My experience as new member educator has just begun but it has helped me become more organized and understand everything that goes on “behind the scenes.”
Would you recommend trying to get a leadership position?
I would 100% recommend having a leadership position. This position has been hard work but it has benefited me in many ways! I get to meet so many amazing women through Pi Phi and Panhellenic because of my position. I have the pleasure of guiding around 90 new members of Pi Phi as they open a new chapter of their lives. I have planned for two semesters for these girls and I cannot wait to meet them and see that all of my hard work paid off.
Tips for finding the right sorority for you?
A tip I would give for finding the right sorority for you would be to trust the process of recruitment. Enjoy rush week. You meet so many great girls and get to see so many great sororities. The sorority for you will stick out to you. When I was going through recruitment, I was looking for girls who would be my home away from home. I found that and so much more in Pi Beta Phi.
Why do you love pi phi?
I adore Pi Phi for sooo many reasons. Every girl is so great in their own way. I have found so many lifelong friends in Pi Phi. The girls that make up this sorority are genuine, constantly support me and encourage me to be the best I can be.
