My Time Backpacking Through Europe~ Brooke Forsyth

So I’m from a super small town called Ranburne, Alabama. My population is around 500 and

everyone knows everything about each other. I came to auburn to continue the family tradition because both of my parents graduated from auburn. I knew I wanted to go abroad during my life but I didn’t know how or when I would get the chance. I met some really cool people in my major (hospitality management) last semester that informed me of the college of human sciences backpacking across Europe trip. They had went on the trip last year with our department head, Martin O’Neill. They had such good things to say about the trip and I knew this trip would guarantee that I saw the most places in a small amount of time so I still had almost all summer to spend with friends and family. Each student was in charge of planning a city. We had to plan every aspect of what we would do for the three days we were there. I chose Amsterdam as my city and spent so much time on my planning grid. We left for Europe on May 9th and returned June 14th - 5 weeks of living out of a 60 L backpack! During my 5 weeks abroad I went to Athens, Rome, Florence, Innsbruck, Munich, Vienna, Prague, Budapest, Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris, and Dublin. I loved every city but my favorites were Florence, Amsterdam, Innsbruck, Prague, and Dublin. I loved the food in Florence. We did a taste of florence tour and got to watch a sweet old man named Roberto cook a pastry in his bakery for our group. Italy was spectacular for the pasta as well. I think I ate pasta for every meal! The mountains in Innsbruck were beautiful. It was such a change of scenery for us. I am more of a mountains girl compared to the beach so I was in love!! Amsterdam was really fun since it was the city I planned. One of my favorite things we did in Amsterdam was the A’DAM lookout. This building had phenomenal views of the city and I got to basically swing over the city. The Anne Frank House was really cool too. Prague was very fun because it was an older city with so much history. The buildings were so pretty. I loved seeing Charles bridge, Prague Castle, and the John Lennon Wall. Dublin was our last city and we only had 2 days in the city. We made the most of our time and saw the Temple Bar, the Book of Kells, toured Guinness, and toured the Jameson Whiskey Distillery. I loved the relaxing environment of Dublin. I am so glad that I went out of my comfort zone and pushed myself to go on this amazing trip. I have made some great memories and seen so many things that most people never get the chance to see in their life. I can’t wait to go again someday soon!
